President and Chief Executive Officer
Williamsburg Community Health Foundation

The Williamsburg Community Health Foundation invites applications and nominations for the position of President and CEO. Working with the Foundation Trustees, staff and grantees, the President provides leadership for attainment of the Foundation's mission: To improve the health of people living in Williamsburg and surrounding counties by strengthening access to quality health services and promoting responsible health practices. Our "community" encompasses the City of Williamsburg and the counties of James City, York, Gloucester, Charles City, New Kent and Surry. Since its inception in 1997, the Foundation has awarded more than $37 million to support community health programs. The Williamsburg Community Health Foundation 2008 Annual Report provides a comprehensive overview of the past year and future goals for the Foundation.

The President of Williamsburg Community Health Foundation serves as its chief executive officer and is responsible for overall leadership, strategic vision, and management of the Foundation. The President reports to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and serves as an ex-officio member of the Board.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Lead the Board in the development and monitoring of a strategic plan to advance achievement of the Foundation's mission, purposes and core values and lead in the execution of the plan.
  • Set annual and long-term measurable performance objectives for the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation in conjunction with Board leadership.
  • Create and maintain a work environment that fosters employee commitment to the Foundation's mission, purposes and core values, supports personal growth, values collaboration and teamwork, and motivates high performance and productivity.
  • Represent the Foundation before the public, the media, and other organizations to advance understanding of the Foundation's mission and programs. Develop and implement a communications program that provides accurate and timely information to the Foundation's stakeholders concerning its activities and accomplishments.
  • Promote sound governance and leadership as core values to position the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation as an institutional leader.
  • Lead in the identification of community health and wellness needs in the Foundation's service area and in the formation and execution of plans and initiatives to address those needs.
  • Monitor national trends in health policy and the work of healthcare foundations and report to the Board, recommending changes to the strategic plan as appropriate.
  • Ensure sound fiscal management by preparing the annual budget for approval by the Board of Trustees and implementing contemporary accounting and reporting processes.
  • Assure the highest standards of leadership, management and ethics in all Foundation activities.
  • Direct and administer all activities and programs of the Foundation within Board approved policies. Supervise and evaluate staff members using mutually agreed upon annual performance objectives and report on these reviews annually to the Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee.

Qualifications

The Williamsburg Community Health Foundation seeks a visionary, energetic leader with proven success in an executive position. Excellent communication skills, analytic ability, and judgment are required qualifications. Highly preferred qualifications include an advanced degree or professional credential in a relevant area and leadership experience in a grant-making, health foundation.
