Capacity Building Grants:

The Williamsburg Community Health Foundation encourages eligible non-profit agencies in Williamsburg and surrounding counties, whose missions align with ours, to explore our capacity building grant program. The Foundation defines capacity building as activities that improve an organization’s ability to achieve its mission on a sustainable basis.  Or, it can be activities that improve a person’s ability to define and realize his/her goals or to do his/her job more effectively.  For organizations, capacity building may relate to almost any aspect of its work: improved governance, leadership, mission and strategy, administration (including human resources, financial management, and legal matters), program development and implementation, fundraising and income generation, diversity, partnerships and collaboration, evaluation, advocacy and policy change, marketing, positioning, planning, etc. For individuals, capacity building may relate to leadership development, advocacy skills, training/speaking abilities, technical skills, organizing skills, and other areas of personal and professional development.

Non-profit agencies have the opportunity to apply for technology grants up to $20,000 and professional development funds up to $2,500.  Professional development grants are available to help applicants offset the costs of professional seminars, workshops, or programs that are not funded by their respective organizations.  The Technology Grants Program is designed to help past and current Foundation recipients acquire technology aimed at improving productivity. Please see individual Professional Development and Technology Guidelines for additional information and eligibility. Applications can be submitted online at any time during the year.  Agencies can apply for both competitive grant funds and capacity building funds within the same year. Applying for capacity building funds will not adversely affect decisions for Competitive Grant Cycle requests.
